From here on to the end of the mix I'll be tweaking various things, which can mean adding additional compression or DeEssing or anything really. Probably about half way through a mix I'll have enough information to do some shaping EQ and then start thinking about rhythmic effects like delays. If the song sounds like a reverb will play a big part I will normally get that going sooner rather than later. This will put me in a good shape to start building the mix around the vocal. Once I have an in time, in tune vocal I will do any corrective EQ required, (I don't have to do too much these days, thankfully.) followed by a basic vocal compressor to reign in the dynamics a little bit. I try and do this on a different day to mixing as fixing up a shitty vocal can drain my motivation quite quickly! Followed by any tuning that may be wanted. I'll generally start by making sure the performance is the best one, so getting editing out of the way first.
